Job Summary

FWS Forestry California LLC, is looking to hire an experienced Forestry Manager for the 170,000-acre Shasta Cascades Timberlands. The manager is responsible for coordinating the timber harvest planning and permitting activities to meet the planned harvest volume needs for the next 3 to 5 years. The Forestry Program Manager will work collaboratively with the Logging Operations Manager to achieve the overall goals and objectives of the program.

Responsibilities

Manages the THP program through directing the fieldwork (flagging, marking, etc.) and document preparation related to wildlife, botany, geological and property-line surveys
• Supervises THP contractors to ensure the THP preparation follows the California Forest Practice Rules as well as ensuring that the written documentation and field work is complete, consistent and clear
• Manage the submission of THP documents, organize pre-harvest inspections, track approvals, and manage tracking of compliance
• Manage the monitoring and documentation and reporting of both WQCB water quality reports and CADFW Master Agreement for Timber Operations
• Evaluate long-range strategic harvest schedule and convert to operational tactical harvest plan
• Generate maps using GIS as well as perform spatial analyses
• Track timber operations to identify needed silviculture actions as well maintain a geospatial database to track all silvicultural operations
• Represent the Landowner’s interests while working directly with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies
• Prepares at least one to two timber harvest plans annually

Requirements

Education level: BS degree in Forestry, Natural Resources or equivalent
• California Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with a minimum of 5-years of experience
F & W Forestry Services, Inc.
• Knowledge and experience with California Forest Practice Rules, THP preparation and layout and working knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
• Field experience in harvest planning, reforestation, thinning and vegetation management
• Knowledge of ArcGIS software, data management and mapping as well as experience with GPS
• Passion for the forestry profession
• Strong work ethic, dedication and ability to think creatively
• Open mind and readiness to learn from experienced foresters.

Compensation

  • $110,000 – 130,000
